These bookmarks are inspired by the decorative Celtic style features found on the illuminated manuscripts of the early Christian era in Ireland. Though the manuscripts they are based on are in some cases over a thousand years old, the bookmarks suggest the vibrancy and color they once had.

To simulate the effect of the vibrant paints and metallic compounds used in the original designs the bookmarks have been worked entirely in glistening Anchor Marlitt thread. This is a shiny viscose thread and is therefore a little harder to work with than standard thread. Only Anchor Marlitt scheme is provided, but if desired you may substitute six-stranded cotton. Design is worked on 2" (50mm) Aida band, completed size is 2" x 9" (50mm x 227mm).
