These designs are inspired by the Celtic-style decorative features on chalices and ornaments of the early Christian era. Though the features they are based on are in some cases over a thousand years old, the medallions suggest the vibrancy and color they once had. Cards, coasters, trinket boxes, etc, are perfect items for these designs.

To simulate the effect of the enamels, colored glass and gold used in the original ornaments they have been worked entirely in glistening Anchor Marlitt thread. This is a shiny viscose thread and is therefore a little harder to work with than standard thread. Only Anchor Marlitt scheme is provided, but if desired you may substitute six-stranded cotton. Completed design is 3" (76mm) circle, and is displayed here with wood effect flexihoop on 14ct ivory (cream) Aida.
