"Be Thou My Vision" Sampler - CLTBTH1

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
naught be all else to me, save that thou art,
thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light

This well-known hymn was originally written in old Irish (Gaelic), and has an Irish melody to it.

The design of the letter "b" in this design is inspired by the Celtic style zoomorphic creatures found on illuminated manuscripts of the early Christian period in Ireland. The border and other lettering are also designs of Celtic origin. To simulate the effect of the vibrant pigments used in the original manuscripts the design has been worked almost entirely in glistening Anchor Marlitt thread. This is a shiny viscose thread and is therefore a little harder to work with than standard thread. Only Anchor Marlitt and scheme is provided, but if desired you may substitute six-stranded cotton.

Completed design measures 12½" x 10¼" (317mm x 260mm) and is displayed here on 14ct ivory (cream) Aida.
