King John's Castle

King John's Castle

King John's Castle - PLCKJC1

King John's Castle, situated on the banks of the River Shannon, was the site of the notorious Siege of Limerick which ended in the signing of the Treaty of Limerick in 1691 between two warring English kings, James II and William of Orange. The castle, dating from the 13th century and situated in the once-walled part of Limerick, has been restored and is a favorite tourist attraction. The stone upon which the Treaty is regarded to have been signed lies directly on the other side of the river.

During the restoration of the castle and construction of a visitor's centre, remains of a Viking settlement were unearthed. The visitor's centre was built on stilts over the archaelogical site and is visible behind the castle from most vantage points across the river. This view is one of the few angles from which the castle can be seen without intrusion.

To fit standard 10" x 8" (250 x 200mm) photo frame or custom frame. Stitched on 14ct. Ivory (Cream) Aida fabric.

Chart and colour pictorial reference supplied, P&P included in price.
